Learning Technologies

When considering the concept of learning technologies, it’s hard to know exactly where to start and where…if at all, the list can be considered “complete”.

The term learning technologies encompasses information and instructional technology, as well as telecommunications tools, applications, and systems that support learning….mobile technologies, assistive technologies, emerging technologies….the list is endless and the possibilities for the technologies to support and enhance learning limitless. The technologies alone, however, will not change learning – the focus needs to be on the interplay between technologies and pedagogy. Educators require a sound understanding of contemporary pedagogical practice in order to most effectively create an environment of authentic learning.

EDUCAUSE reviews 7 Things you should know about Learning technologies – these articles reflect on different technologies that can be used for learning, considering how it works, where it is going, how it matters to teaching and learning etc.

You should also consider the  Horizon Report – an annual report that reviews technologies and predicts how they may impact on education in the ensuing months and years.
